This newly created senior role will take ownership of redesigning complex, high-stakes internal applications that must be intuitive, accessible, and efficient for the thousands of staff who rely on them during peak operational periods.
You’ll apply human-centred design principles across research, journey mapping, prototyping, testing and iteration—bringing together insights from users, business teams, and developers to create streamlined digital experiences that work under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the redesign of internal systems with a focus on usability and efficiency.
- Conduct user research and workshops to understand complex workflows and user needs.
- Map user journeys, prototype and test solutions to improve system design.
- Collaborate with developers and business stakeholders to ensure successful implementation.
- Build design standards and best-practice frameworks that support long-term system improvements.
- You bring extensive experience in user experience and interface design across the full human-centred design lifecycle.
- You’ve worked in mission-critical or complex environments (e.g. government, healthcare, logistics) where accuracy and reliability matter.
- You’re confident facilitating workshops, translating research into actionable design outcomes, and influencing diverse stakeholders.
- You’re comfortable navigating ambiguity and creating structure from complexity.
- Proficient in Figma and familiar with other wireframing and prototyping tools.
- Flexible hybrid work (approx. two days onsite in Port Melbourne).
- Collaborative, fast-paced, purpose-driven culture with real community impact.
- Professional development, wellbeing programs, and supportive leadership.
- The opportunity to build user-centred design capability in a newly established function.
Your application must include:
- Combined CV and Folio of UX design for mission-critical/complex environments
Only those who can demonstrate the above experience will be responded to.
You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident in order to apply.
