Getting to know Lawrence Akers - Senior Recruitment Consultant

"This year, I'm celebrating 13 years in the creative recruitment industry. At this stage in my career, it is more important to me than ever to have a place to work in that reflects my own personal values. I'm so pleased to be working in an environment that is positive with a team of people whom I absolutely adore and who are passionate about providing a different kind of recruitment service."

Who am I?

Without going in deep, 5000 word philosophical responses, I can say that I've been very fortunate to have worn quite a few different hats over my professional working life. I've spent time working in the music industry and more recently have also spent time setting up my own business as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Counsellor, specialising in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy. Having said all that, I've been working in creative recruitment now for over a quarter of my life so it is something that I am more than comfortable with.

Where have I been for the last year?

For the past six months, my focus has really been exclusively on building my own business, Release Hypnosis. Now that Release is up and running, it felt like a good time to make a return back to recruitment. 

What am I passionate about?

There are so many things that I'm passionate about. As you would guess from my own business, I'm passionate about psychology, understanding why people think the way that they do, and helping people who are experiencing mental pain and anguish. I'm passionate about music, seeing bands live and hearing music out in a venue. I'm passionate about my partner and my 'fur babies', who mean the absolute world to me. I'm also passionate about social causes, politics, Doctor Who, music theatre, travel, dad jokes and Eurovision, although not in that order.

What is my vision?

I’m excited to be able to bring my skills that I’ve developed from working with clients in therapy to the skills that I already have in creative recruitment. The ability to offer a mature, transparent service really excites me and to be in an environment that wholeheartedly supports that.

What now?
