If the first few months of 2020 have taught us anything, it’s that change is the only constant.
What started as an idea to put down in words our thoughts about the current status of demand in the Australian design industry, this has evolved into more of a thought piece on the idea of constant adaptability and flexibility in an environment that is always going to have peaks and troughs, up and downs.
Fortunately, Australia’s pool of skilled designers, creatives and marketers is always quick to adapt and embrace new technology, changing trends and different ways of working to achieve high-quality outcomes.
At the time of writing this thought piece, there was still a healthy demand for permanent positions from design & marketing studios and agencies but within a week, that has felt like a year, so much has changed.
Whilst today demand for freelancers remains strong, we certainly don’t know for sure what the future holds. The silver lining is that the gig economy has reached full maturity and freelancing and contracting
has become the norm. Many freelancers are geared up ready and waiting to work from home so this is a golden opportunity for you take advantage of this.
The ATO watches the gig economy closely though so in order to reduce the risk of an employer/employee relationship being determined between you and your freelancers, its important to hire your freelancer through a specialist third party provider like [enter plug] Creative Recruiters.
In the meantime, at the very least I hope this thought piece provokes conversation and increases communication around how we can support each other through these unique times.
My team and I are here to support you in whatever ways we can. Perhaps you just need someone to listen to your concerns, bounce ideas off, perhaps you want to workshop an affordable way to scale up and down. Whatever your staffing problems are, we will work tirelessly to find you solutions.
Take care, stay safe and let’s lean on each other for support where we can.
